Decided to Eat Healthier

My wife and I have decided to eat healthier, more vegetables and fruit, less meat.  We are not eliminating meat, just limiting the amount we consume.

In that vein we sat down to meal plan, something I have been diabolically opposed to, as I wake up each day with a certain taste in my mouth that I want to satisfy during the day.  So…I gave my wife a folder of OLD recipes and agreed that she could pick out the meals and I would not only cook them, I would eat them.

The next phase of this plan was to budget.  Another thing I have been opposed to when it comes to ingredients.  My wife made the list of ingredients, after checking our fridge and pantry for items we might already have, and proceeded to shop.  I have always done the shopping so this again was way different for me.

She spent $138.70 on the week’s groceries.  We have meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 7 days, which included some whole wheat pizza dough, eggs and chicken we already had in the fridge and freezer.

The dinners are from the OLD recipes; however, the breakfast and lunch meals are from Trader Joes online recipes and Forks Over Knives online recipes.

Join me as I approach this new phase in my life… is a new beginning.  When it comes to food, ingredients and cooking I have always guarded that as my own.  Sharing this with my wife, along with eating healthier, is definitely something you will want to stay tuned for.
